The truth is, Australia, just like any other developed nation, is also suffering from serious environmental problems. And this one has greatly alarmed many authorities, such that they have started to move and deal with these problems. The issues have also reached a higher level, as these have now become a forefront in policymakers' decisions.


One of the biggest of these issues is climate change. In fact, this one has become a highly contended issue in the recent campaigns for the 2010 Federal Elections in the country. However, not a few environmental groups are concerned that the attention being given by politicians to the issue might not be enough.


According to them, the issue of climate change is actually bigger than what a lot of people in the government might think. They also argue that, if left unmitigated, climate change will definitely have a great deal of effect on the country's fragile environment. Indeed, according to some studies, the the changes that are being caused by climate change, such as deforestation and a rise in temperature, are now slowly being felt by the country.


However, climate change isn't only the biggest environmental problem that the country is facing. Pollution has also become a major threat to the habitability of Australia's lands. Experts pointed out that, as Australia's economy and population continue to grow, so do the pollution that it will release into the environment. And as a lot of people have already known, this pollutants will definitely cause significant damages to the country's soils, waterways, and air.


Also coupled with the country's growth is the destruction of the environment to make way for development projects. Indeed, Australia has one of the highest rates of urban development in the world today. However, with that, the rate at which it uses up its environmental resources also becomes significant. The lost of habitat for many native flora and fauna, as well as the threat to the survival of several species have also become a concern.


There have been many environmental conservation campaigns that has been undertaken by a wide variety of groups in Australia in the last few years. However, some are concerned that, as long as the Australian public itself does not act, it is unlikely that these efforts will succeed.
