Australian Government Pressed To Increase Immigration

In Australia, migration has been one of the most pressing issues that has debated in the past few months. Even during the elections last August, this has been one of the central issues of concern. And in here, immigration cuts has been a major topic.

It is interesting to note that both the contending Labor and Liberal Parties are actually opting for immigration cuts. The main difference between would be the way to implement the cuts. While the Liberals want an immediate decrease in immigration numbers, the Labor Party want it implemented on a gradual basis. Nevertheless, it seems that the immigration cut seems inevitable.

However, with all the things that has happened in the last few months, many groups are wondering whether immigration cuts are indeed the right thing to implement at this time. As it is, the country is now experiencing a shortage of workers, as its labor force is not able to cope up with the rapid growth of the Australian economy. And this is where groups say that immigration becomes even more important, as it is the one that provides the country with enough workers for its industries.

Thus, these groups are now clamoring for the the government to forget the cuts for now and instead encourage further foreign migration into the country. They say that keeping the Australian economy afloat is now important. However, it seems that this would be easier said than done.

As it is, there are many things that needed to be considered before the government decides whether or not to increase immigration. One of the most crucial of these would be whether such an increase would indeed be able to meet the country's demand. Critics of the immigration increase pointed out the previous administration's immigration policies as an example. As it is, in order to solve the then current workers shortage, the government decided to relax the regulations in order to attract more foreigners. However, it turns out that a lot of those who were able to get in were not qualified for the positions that the country needs the most.

In fact, they said that the changes initiated by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship since last year, tightening the regulations of the skilled migration program, were meant to solve that problem. Thus, they said that, if ever the government does push for more immigration in order to solve the country's current worker problem, it must make sure that it will be able to do so correctly. However, the government assured that they will take this into consideration.
