Kiwis Fear Effects Of Migration To Australia

With the country now finally on the way to recovery after the financial crisis of 2007, Australian Immigration officials are now on the rush to accommodate the number of people moving in. indeed, with Australia's economy now poised to grow even more, more and more people are convinced that the continent is the place to be in right now.

And one of the biggest groups that are arriving in to the country comes from the nearby islands of New Zealand. In fact, according to the statistics provided by the New Zealand immigration department, more than 15,000 New Zealanders moved to Australia permanently last year. According to experts, the figures are expected to steadily rise in the years to come.

This one is actually not that surprising. Both Australia and New Zealand have a close immigration relationship with each other. Having shared a common history together, the two countries have provided easy travel for their citizens traveling to each other. And one of the perks given by both countries to their citizens is the exemption from visa requirements.

However, while this one is often seen in in a positive light, not a few experts are concerned about the effects of the continuing traverse of Kiwis across the Tasman into the continent. Statistics have shown that, while the number of people moving into New Zealand is still much higher as compared to those moving out to Australia, the figures are actually steadily increasing. Thus, they have already raised their concerns about the issue.

One of the biggest concerns that many people have with the continuing exodus of New Zealanders to Australia is that it is drawing away labor from the islands. As it is, Australia's economy is considerably higher than that New Zealand. This makes it quite attractive for a lot of Kiwis to move in. However this departure in turn gets workers away from the country, which also needs it.

On the other hand, some Australians also fear the negative repercussions of more Kiwis arriving in the continent. Here, their major concern is that New Zealanders are drawing away precious resources from those already in the country. Though a lot of Australian experts have said that the arrival of New Zealanders are unlikely have such an effect to the country, these people often can not help but worry.

In recent years, many measures have been taken to deal with this concerns. One of these is by putting in stricter regulations with regards to New Zealanders moving to Australia. Nevertheless, even with all these moves, a lot of people are hopeful that these does not affect the relationship of the two countries.

  3. i really do not think that this is a very big issue as most of these moves are not permanent and should only be till the time that NZ economy picks up as well. Being a Australian Migration Specialist I myself have come across such cases.
