Getting Your Kids To Australia

For those planning on moving to Australia, immigration applications are the most important ones that you need to get through. Luckily there are many options that you can go through, especially if you are a family moving to the land down under.

One of the visas that you can apply for is the family visa, which allow an entire family to move into the country at the same time. However, there are times when a family migration is not applicable. For instance, when finances limit the possibility of applying for a such a visa. Here, you might want to take alternative moves to migrate to Australia.

One of the most common ways taken by a lot of families in this situation is by letting the parents  move in first before getting their children. This is where the child migration visa would come in handy. The visa is applicable for children of people living in Australia and New Zealand.

In order to avail of a child migration visa, the petitioning parent or parents must be Australian citizens or has gained citizenship prior to application. The child or children to be petitioned must be under 18 years old to fall into this category. For children 18 years old and above, they will be required to file a separate visa application or be petitioned under a different visa.

Note that the child visa category is not only limited to getting natural born children. Relatives wishing to sponsor of their kinds are also provided to do so under several subcategories. For those wishing to get orphaned or abandoned relatives, they can do so under the orphaned relative category. The sponsor must only present enough evidence that he or she is indeed a direct relative of the child to be petitioned in order to be granted a visa.

On the other hand, Australian citizens wishing to sponsor adopted children can do so under the adoption category. However, there are specific rules that must be followed for this one. For one, the adoption must be supported by a state or territory adoption authority. In case the adoption was filed overseas, the said authority also need to accredit it in order to be granted a visa.

Interested sponsors can lodge their application directly to the Australian embassy or the Australian Visa Application Center. One thing to note is that you need to present sufficient proof that you will be able to support the child in order to be granted sponsorship.
